Group Expense Split Calculator
Divide the costs for multiple payers and participants by category. Consider equal, proportionate, or direct amounts, refunds, and already sent amounts to calculate the remaining payment.
Enter expense
Public example, 3 people·2 expenses. Try immediate settlement or swap each expense.
Calculation result
You can calculate directly using the input public example.
A transfer proposal maintains individual balances and organizes paths. It may differ from the actual payment recipient, and there is no guarantee that the number of transfers is mathematically minimal.
The default value is a participant number. Including a name can be shared with others; verify the content. Expenditure names are not shared.

A method for settling expenses for multiple people.
Select participants and payers for each expense. If there is one payer, the total amount is considered fully paid; if multiple people pay, the sum of individual amounts must equal the total amount. Distribute among equal, integer proportion, or direct payment amounts. The sum of direct payments must also equal the expense amount.
Calculation formula and remainder handling
Each person’s balance = net payment + refund − burden + amount already sent − amount already received. Positive values are amounts to receive, negative values are amounts to send. Reduce the proportion allocation for each expense to the smallest unit, then distribute the remaining unit in descending order of decimal remainder. If equal, use participant order. The total balance for each currency is 0.
Input example
If Minsoo pays 60,000 won for three people’s meals and 12,000 won for Ji-eun·Seoyeon’s café, the total cost is 72,000 won. Minsoo bears 20,000 won, while Ji-eun·Seoyeon each bear 26,000 won. Ji-eun sends 14,000 won to Minsoo and 26,000 won to Seoyeon, resulting in a balance of 0. If the already sent amount is recorded, only the remaining transfer proposal is recalculated.
Supported range
Supports 2–20 participants, 1–100 expenses/reimbursements, and 50 sent transfers. A single amount is less than 1 trillion of the corresponding currency’s minimum unit. KRW·JPY have 0 decimal places; USD·EUR have 2 decimal places. Calculations are performed as is, and currencies are added or converted directly. If the reimbursement exceeds the expense, the net cost may be negative. This record is not a receipt or tax calculation, nor a real financial transaction.
The remaining payment connects the sender and receiver in the order of participants. Even if the route is organized, the balances of each person remain unchanged. It does not involve legal judgment of debts between relationships or changing mutually agreed transaction conditions, so check the proposed route together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can participants vary for each expense?
Yes. Select the person who will divide the cost among each expense. The payer can be different from the divider. If multiple people paid for the same expense, each payment amount can also be entered.
How do you divide 1 won or 1 cent?
Reduce each fraction to the smallest unit and distribute the remaining unit in descending order of decimal remainder. If remainders are equal, use participant order. The total matches expenses exactly.
Can the person who actually paid and the recipient be different?
The total balance of the group is aggregated by currency and organized into paths, so people who did not directly share costs can be connected. Each person’s balance is preserved, but they must confirm together regarding the proposed path. It does not guarantee the mathematical minimum number of transfers.
Is automatic transfer and device synchronization also available?
Not provided. KRW and JPY are whole numbers; USD and EUR are rounded to two digits and calculated separately per currency. Inputs are stored only in memory, and a backup of the JSON can be loaded to continue calculation.
Calculation criteria and reference materials
- Splitwise — expense allocation method
Work criteria for equalization, individual amounts, and proportion allocation. This tool uses separate minimum unit allocation rules.
- Splitwise — organize balance and transfer routes
A concept that maintains individual balances, organizes paths, and calculates currency separately. This is not data proving the path algorithm and minimum number of occurrences of this tool.
