Calculation·conversion criteria

Calculate altitude between two right angles of a right triangle.

Hypotenuse = √(a²+b²)

Input example

Hypotenuse 3 and 4: Altitude = 5

If 6 and 8 are perpendicular lines, the diagonal is √(36+64)=10. The same calculation is used to find the diagonals in a rectangle’s horizontal and vertical directions.

How to use

  1. Use the provided example value or change the right-angle side a and right-angle side b items.
  2. Click Verify result and check the following result.
  3. Result can be copied if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it be used on either side of a triangle?

No. This result is a hypotenuse only when the angle between the two input sides is 90 degrees. A regular triangle requires different conditions, and use a triangle area tool to calculate area with three sides.
